The New Glarus/Monticello Knights football team faced the Mosinee Indians for their homecoming game on Friday night. The Knights emerged victorious, 14-12.
"This is a big win for the program as Mosinee is a school twice our size," said Coach Jeff Eichelkraut. "The players did a phenomenal job of competing and playing sound football all night long."
Senior John Chenoweth began the scoring with a 1-yard run for a Knights touchdown in the first quarter. The extra point by Trent Sigafus was good. Mosinee scored a touchdown of their own near the end of the first.
In the second quarter, Mosinee scored again to bring the score 12-7 in their favor. NGM junior Jared Carney ran for three yards to scored a touchdown. Once again, Sigafus scored the extra point for the Knights and they went into halftime with a two point lead.
The NGM defense held Mosinee scoreless for the rest of the game.
"The defense really played well, especially in the second half. This a game that we can really build upon for the next couple of weeks," said Eichelkraut.
Quarterback John Chenoweth passed for 44 yards, and scored one touchdown. Rushing for 117 yards was sophomore Zach Feller. Tanner Jelle racked up 33 yards rushing. Drew Pickett ended the game with 44 receiving yards. Jelle, Trent Siegenthaler, Jon Errthum and Jacob Tetner all recorded sacks for the NGM defense, holding the Indians to just 122 rushing yards.
The Knights will host Waterloo on October 7th, kickoff is at 7:00 p.m.
