Eli Leonard, a freshman member of the Raiders, won the championship to advance to state.

The Sugar River Raiders wrestling team has three members of the team headed to the WIAA State Wrestling Tournament. This number represents the most qualifiers since 2006 for the team.

Freshman Eli Leonard was the 152 lb Champion to qualify for the tournament, while sophomore Blake Endres (113 lbs) and junior Mason Mau (126 lbs) both placed second.

Mason Mau, a junior, finished in second place to qualify for the state wrestling tournament.

"All three had a tremendous day," said Coach Pete Swenson. "They continue to wrestle hard and keep constant pressure on their opponents. I am confident all three will find their way to the top six at the state tournament."

Mau represented the Raiders at the state tournament last year, his season ending with a very close match.

Also wrestling but not qualifying were Ryker Swenson, Alex Zielinski, and Carson Loshaw. Swenson, who took fourth place, is an alternate in case another wrestler is not able to participate.

"I am extremely proud of these guys and their efforts throughout the season. I know they didn't want their season to end here, but they have so much to keep their heads up," commented Swenson.

The WIAA tournament starts on Thursday, February 23rd. All three Raider wrestlers will wrestle around 7:00 p.m., Thursday evening.
