Sugar River won over the Hillmen of Lancaster/ Platteville and Edgewood to take the Regional Championship last week. Next up will be a sectional game against Mount Horeb at 7:00 p.m., on Thursday, October 26th, at Mount Horeb High School.

The Sugar River boys soccer team played a Division 3, Sectional 3 WIAA Tournament game at Reddan Park against Platteville/Lancaster on October 19th, and shut out the Hillmen, 4-0.

"Strong performance for Sugar River," said Coach Kyle Webber. "Got some nice goals early in the game and was able to possess the ball around Platteville/Lancaster."

Sugar River scored early in the first period. Brock Kelly, assisted by Jaden Kreklow, put the first point on the board. Three minutes later, Kreklow assisted Jack Gentilli for the second point. Justin Knoebl didn't wait long to score the third point for Sugar River. Brock Kelly scored the fourth point in the second period.

The win against the Hillmen advanced Sugar River to play against Edgewood on October 21st, at MATC Goodman Pitch field. Coach Webber commented that it was a, "very tough Regional championship game. Both teams played very well. Lots of off the ball movement in the first half lead to a couple of goals by Sugar River."

The first score was by Jack Gentilli, assisted by Jaden Kreklow, early on in the first. Edgewood then scored, but minutes later, Jared Widish, assisted by Justin Knoebl, put the final point on the board for Sugar River. The final score was Sugar River 2, Edgewood 1.

"Edgewood had a very effective counter attack, leading to a wonderful chip for a goal. Sugar River was able to hold on as Edgewood continued to press forward during the final minutes," said Webber. "Two very tough teams battling tonight. Great game."

Cole Myers recorded eight saves during the game.
