Ponies Leave Comets in the Dust

On January 16th, the varsity Monticello Ponies boys basketball team played at Black Hawk. Black Hawk led by 4 at the half and the game was tied up at the end of regulation, 38-38. After going into overtime, the teams were tied three times but Black Hawk made two free throws in the last minute to put them up for the win. The final score was Black Hawk 46, Monticello 45.
Leading the Ponies with 12 points was Ryer Indergand, who also had 7 rebounds. Peyton Smith scored 11 points and had 8 rebounds and Jackson Eyler scored 10 points and had 9 rebounds.
On January 17th, the Ponies hosted Albany. The Ponies led at the half, 30-22, and hung on for the win against the Comets. The final score was Monticello 55, Albany 43.
The Comets went on an early 5-0 run to start the game, but the Ponies scored 13 points in a row and left the Comets in the dust for the rest of the game. The closest they got was 4 points, but Monticello went on a 14-3 run to lead 50-33 with just under 6 minutes left in the game. The Comets were forced to shoot from the outside by the Pony defense resulting in 10 3-point shots, which still wasn’t enough for them to catch up.
Peyton Smith scored 14 points and had 6 rebounds to lead Monticello, while Ryer Indergand scored 13 points and had 3 rebounds, Alex Roe scored 11 points, and Nick Roe and Jackson Eyler each had 2 rebounds.
The Ponies played at Barneveld on January 20th. Down 11 at the half, the Ponies’ offense was shut down in the second half by the Eagles, who won the game. The final score was Barneveld 73, Monticello 35.
The Eagles started the game on a 12-2 lead in the first 3 minutes of play. The Ponies were able to get within 3 thanks to back to back 3-pointers by Nick and Alex Roe but Barneveld would not let up for the rest of the game.
Alex Roe led the Ponies with 11 points and had 3 rebounds, while Peyton Smith scored 7 points and had 9 rebounds and Jackson Eyler scored 6 points and had 8 rebounds.
The Ponies host Argyle on January 26th, play at Juda on January 31st and host Black Hawk on February 9th.
