A Bald Eagle pair built an auxiliary nest 1,000 feet from the other nest, still intact. Time will tell if the pair moves into the new nest for egg laying, incubation, hatching, and raising 1-2 eaglets this year.
The larger of the two birds is most likely the female of this pair. Courtship can confirm gender identity, too. Next, look for some marking one or the other bird has that can easily be used to identify that bird. The female of this pair has a dark spot on her left side, just back of and below her eye.
