Lady Ponies Defeat Argyle and Williams Bay

On January 5th, the Monticello Lady Ponies hosted Argyle. Taking a 21-17 lead into halftime, the Ponies kept pressure on the Lady Orioles in the second half and won the game. The final score was Monticello 50, Argyle 46.

“We were able to hang on despite only making 1 of 5 free throw attempts down the stretch,” said Coach Mark Gustafson.

Leading the Ponies in scoring was Dalana Trumpy, with 18 points. Jaden Zuber put 11 points on the board, which included three 3-pointers, and Karlee Wilkins scored 8 points. Ellie Gustafson pulled down 18 rebounds.

On January 7th, the Lady Ponies played at Williams Bay. Monticello only allowed WB to score 7 points in the first half and took a healthy 34-7 lead into halftime. WB’s offense picked up their pace in the second half but could not catch up. The final score was Monticello 64, Williams Bay 31.

“Team looked good and executed well. Comfortable lead early, and carried on throughout the game,” commented Gustafson. “Everyone was able to score for us.”

With her fifth double/double for the season, Ellie Gustafson scored 22 points and had 10 rebounds to lead the Ponies, while Dalana Trumpy scored 16 points and Molly Olson put 9 points on the board along with her 9 assists.

Monticello hosted Albany on January 10th. They will host Barneveld on January 13th, play at Juda on January 19th and host Cambria-Friesland on January 21st. Monticello has an overall record of 7-3, and are 2-2 in conference play. They’re currently in fourth place in the Six Rivers East conference.
