On December 17th, the Sugar River Raider wrestling team competed in the 25-team tournament at the Badger State Invitational at the Alliant Energy Center in Madison. At the end of the day the Raiders placed 3rd, only one point away from 2nd place!
"This was a great tournament for the team. This shows that we can compete with a lot of good teams. What's remarkable is that every single wrestler contributed and placed in the top 10. Everyone continues to support and push each other to do their best. That's all we can ask for. Work hard, help each other, and have fun has been our ongoing message this season," said Coach Pete Swenson. "This team knows how to work hard and help each other, and as a result, we can relax and have fun at our dual meets and tournaments. Carson Loshaw had an awesome tournament working through a tough bracket and eventually pinning his opponent in the finals. Also reaching the finals was Blake Endres and Mason Mau. Freshmen Ashlin Mihlbauer and Eli Leonard placed fourth in their respective weight classes. Both really had some tough brackets, but held their own and really helped out the team."

Rounding out the placing for the Raiders were Garrett Pauli: 7th, Trei Udelhoven: 8th, Ryker Swenson and Alex Zielinski: 9th, Brennan Keyes, Aidan Keyes, Isaac Erb: 10th.
The tournament also held an all girls tournament at the same time. The Raiders have two girls on the team who competed.
"Girls wrestling is now a WIAA sanctioned sport and will run a state tournament at the same time with the boys this season. This is one of the fastest growing sports in the United States," stated Coach Swenson. "Currently we have five girls between middle and high school, and I know this will continue to grow. I am so proud of Ripley and Adylyn as they are pioneering this sport for the Raiders. Adylyn had a great weekend placing 6th, and Ripley picked up her first win!"
Over the holiday break the Raiders will travel to Oshkosh to wrestle at the On The Water tournament held by UW-Oshkosh, December 29-30.
