Ponies Bring Home Silver

Monticello Ponies Girls Basketball had a great season, and ended up bring home Silver as the runners up in the State Volleyball Tournament last weekend! Congratulations ladies!

The Monticello Ponies volleyball team competed at the WIAA State Volleyball Tournament on Friday, November 4, and Saturday, November 5, 2022.

The first challenge for the Ponies was Athens on Friday. Monticello won in five sets, 25-22, 12-25, 25-27, 25-21, 15-9.

Ellie Gustafson led the Ponies in kills with 28, while Macey Grant had 9 and Dalana Trumpy and Kennadee Johnson had 5 each. Kelsy Grant had 40 aces, while Ellie Gustafson had 4 and Dalana Trumpy had 3. Ellie Gustafson had 34 digs, while Jaden Zuber had 18, Macey Grant had 16 and Dalana Trumpy had 10.

The win against Athens sent the Ponies to the state semi-final game against McDonell Catholic on Saturday. Monticello played four tough sets against McDonell, winning the first set and dropping the rest. Set scores were 25-22, 22-25, 15-25, 16-25.

Ellie Gustafson led in kills with 28, while Macey Grant had 10 and Dalana Trumpy had 2. Kelsy Grant had 37 aces, while Jaden Zuber had 3 and Kennadee Johnson had 2. Ellie Gustafson had 25 digs, while Jaden Zuber had 16 and Dalana Trumpy had 12.

The Ponies had an amazing season, ending undefeated in conference play and only losing one single game all season, along with being named Conference and Regional Champions and bringing home silver from state. Way to go, Ponies!
