The 91st Sugar River Euchre League season is here. On Thursday, October 6th, we will begin the season less one longtime player and good friend, George Eichelkraut. George was a player that everyone wanted as a partner and one his opponents loved to beat, which was never easy. The league extends our deepest sympathies to his family, our thoughts are with you. In honor of George, I propose each team hold a toast on October 6th before the first card is played. He will be missed by all.

This year’s Captains’ meeting was held on September 22nd at Kleeman’s in New Glarus to elect officers and to finalize the schedule. Jerome Krantz was elected as League President, Tom Magnuson as Treasurer and Stan Hook as Secretary. After a long discussion, the Captains decided to eliminate the meal served each week at the end of the evening and the individual championship trophies. However, the high average and perfect score trophies will continue to be awarded. Furthermore, it was decided not to hold a mid-winter tournament this year due to low participation the past several years.
