Sugar River Euchre
March 24, 2022
The Red Mouse in Pine Bluff hosted the Sugar River Euchre League’s Spring Tournament on March 17th, with 32 in attendance - all with expectations of walking away as the tournament champion. Dave Hook and Jeff Goebler’s shot at that title quickly died when they were skunked in the second frame by Steve Vogt and Larry Kluesner. However, they will still receive a prize (a postcard) to help them remember this momentous occasion.
On the other hand, by the end of the fourth game, it was looking pretty good for Stan Hook and Mary Humphrey as they were the only couple still undefeated at that point. But, just as in life, things can change on a dime, and they did. Stan and Mary failed to win another game all night, to drop them from first place to a tie for sixth.
It was consistency that won the night. Jerry Judd and Dan Meinholz won five of their eight games and had only one score lower than a 14. Jerry and Dan finished on top with 114 points, 10 more points than their closest competitor. The remaining scores were: Bruce Milestone and Lavern Maier, 104; Derek Skogen and Jeff Judd, 104; Barb Judd and John Baumgartner, 103; Randy Skogen and Charlie Steinhauer, 102; Dave Steinhauer and Tom Magnuson, 100; Stan Hook and Mary Humphrey, 100; Don Williams and Scott Hook, 97; Erika Funseth and Ed Chancellor, 97; Dean Disch and Giff Hoesly, 96; Steve Hoffmaster and RossAnn Maier, 93; Dave Hook and Jeff Goebler, 92; Chris Hook and Tom Meyer, 90; Jim Day and Larry Losenegger, 87; Steve Vogt and Larry Kluesner, 84; Opie Taylor and Leo Humphrey, 82.
After a very enjoyable night of cards, everyone enjoyed some excellent pulled pork, potatoes and carrots prepared by the staff of the Red Mouse. President Jerome Krantz then announced the winners and distributed prize money to the top six places.
Unfortunately, due to some unusual circumstances, the date and time of the championship match was not set. Season averages, along with details of the championship match, will be provided at a later date.
