The Kleeman’s Hay Shakers finished the first half of the season with a perfect 9 and 0 record after their 2-point win over the previously undefeated Starlight Express. Al Zimmerman and Don Williams stacked 115 bales on the tracks to block the Express, sending the boxcars home empty.

In New Glarus, the Shufflers found themselves down by 23 after the fourth frame in their match against the Cheese Eaters. But, with the help of Dave Herfel and Ed Chancellor’s 116 points (this week’s high score), the Shufflers rallied back to a 40-point win and left the Cheese Eaters with nothing but Limburger in their warehouse. Dave and Ed also pulled in 54 points more than their opponents.

After mastering all the tricks in their bag, the Pranksters were able to secure a 20-point win over the Pipe Benders. Highly recruited tricksters, Laurel Grindle and Jordy Schmitz, pulled 110 points out of their bag to expose several leaks in the Pipe Benders’ game plan. Only Jerome Krantz and Ryan Arneson were able to weld together more than 100 feet of pipe for the Benders.

The Norsk Cowboys also had a good night against our neighbors from the north. While analyzing the 76 points lost by the Mounties, one can only assume they were unable to bring their ammunition across the U.S. Canadian border. None of the Mounties packed the fire power needed to break the 100-point barrier. In fact, Jim Day and Curt Herfel could only muster76 points for the Mounties, this week’s low score. Whereas, two Cowboy couples, Randy Schmid and Don Field, plus Roger Olstad and Steve Dower, corralled 114 points for their team.

Curt Wedig and Larry Kluesner lost only their fourth game to end the night with 114 points, giving the Trolls some hope of winning their second match of the half. However, River Rats Dan Palmer and Steve Ace matched their 114 points, and, with the help of the rest of the Rats, they pulled out an 8-point victory to take their second win of the half.

Standings: Kleeman’s 9-0; Starlight Express 8-1; Pranksters 7-2; Shufflers 6-3; Cowboys 4-5; Jones Plumbing 3-6; Mounties 3-6; Sportsman’s Bar 2-7; J&M Bar 2-7; Trolls 1-8.

The Mid-Winter Tournament will be held on January 6, 2022, at Kleeman’s. Registration begins at 6:30 p.m., and play at 7:00 p.m. The tournament is open to current and past league players. This includes subs. The cost is $12 per person. 2019/2020 Championship, perfect score and high average trophies will also be presented.
