Sugar River Euchre

Red Mouse Shufflers Shane Kahl and Steve Vogt had a good night putting up 113 points to lead their team on to a 20-point win over the Norsk Cowboys. The Cowboys were down by 42 at one point, but couldn’t corral points quick enough to catch the Shufflers.

Mounties Bruce Milestone and Dan Meinholz ended the night with 119 points, this week’s high score. Pipe Benders Dan and Ryan Bowar stopped them from a perfect score in the first game of the night. I think this upset Bruce and Dan because they held Dan and Ryan to just 1 point in the 5th game. Each of the Mounties broke 100, whereas none of the Pipe Benders did. The Red Mouse Mounties won by 90.

The Cheese Eaters pushed the River Rats back into the river with a 35-point win. Losing just two games, each by 1 point, Cheese Eaters Jeff Buesser and Ed Wettach ended the night with 118 points. Teammates Bryan Buesser and George Eichelkraut lost only one game, by 2 points, to also finish with 118 points. River Rats Ernie Sarbacker and Gordie Gehin started the night out with just 2 points in the first frame and ended with a 2 in the eighth frame, giving them a total of 76 points, this week’s low score. Fellow Rats Kurt Buetal and Jimmy Gehin barely escaped a skunk with 1-point in the 3rd frame. That 1 point however saved them from being tied for low score.

The Express rolled over the Pranksters by 31 points. In the process, a couple of players were added to the skunk club. Pranksters Larry Losenegger and Corey O’Hearn were unable to slow the Express as engineers John Scheidegger and Charlie Steinhauer flew down the track so fast that Larry and Corey couldn’t grab a single point from them. By the end of the fourth game, Larry and Corey had pocketed only 25 points out of a possible 60. They ended the night with a meager 77 points.

For the second week in a row, Kleeman’s fell behind early in their match only to come back to win. This week, they waited until the last frame to take the lead by picking up 24 points more than the Trolls to win the match by 17. Trolls Garrett Leis and Curt Wedig, with 111 points, can’t figure out what bridge the rest of the Trolls were hiding under, or why.

The Hay Shakers and the Express remain undefeated. It now comes down to their match on December 16th to determine who will win the first half. The rest of us are just playing for team pride.

Standings: Kleeman’s 8-0; Starlight Express 8-0; Pranksters 6-2; Shufflers 5-3; Cowboys 3-5; Jones Plumbing 3-5; Mounties 3-5; Sportsman’s Bar 2-6; J&M Bar 1-7; Trolls 1-7.

Schedule for December 16: Kleeman’s @ Starlight (7:30); Shufflers @ Sportsman’s Bar (7:00); Cowboys @ Mounties (7:00); Jones Plumbing @ Pranksters (7:30); J&M Bar @ Walk-On (7:00).
