Our Division 3 State Qualifier race was held on Saturday in Albany. The morning gave us blue skies, no wind and crisp temperatures.

The boys were geared up for healthy competition and had been working hard. They knew a top five spot overall was attainable, but they also had their sights set on a higher place. As the race progressed, the competition grew and we were unable to predict where we fell in the standings. When results were posted, the boys were ecstatic to see a 3rd place finish, in front of Albany, Darlington, and Iowa-Grant, each of whom had beaten us this season. The point spread between the top five teams was only 49 points, which shows how competitive our sectional is.

Carter Scholey was the overall winner of the race, with a time of 16:44, and earned a spot at State next weekend in Wisconsin Rapids. Rounding out our Varsity runners were: Angelo Dohm in 19th place with a time of 18:44, Jordan Wilder in 21st place with a time of 18:51 (season best), Matt Loshaw placing 24th with a time of 19:00, and Niles Monroe placing 39th with a time of 19:41 (career best). Our sixth runner, Blake Johnson, finished with a time of 20:23 (career best), followed by Aiden Campbell with a time of 20:29.

The girl's placed 8th this season and ran strong races. Alora Spiegel finished 8th overall, but qualified for State as an individual with a 4th place finish with a time of 21:10! This was a career best for her. Well done, Alora! The Varsity girls team finished as follows: Lainey Winkers (23:12), Emily Gomez (27:01), Allison Dyrhaug (27:22), Ruby Gustafson (27:58), Maddie Miller (28:02) and Lauren Bartels (28:55). Well done, ladies!

On to State at the Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids next Saturday. Carter will run at 1:10 p.m., and Alora will run at 3:05 p.m.
