June 24, 2021

Sugar River Raider Girls Soccer won the Regional Championship on June 17, 2021, with a 3-0 win over Evansville.
On June 17th, the Sugar River girls soccer team hosted Evansville at the Belleville Sports Complex and won, 3-0.
In the first half, Jaylynn Benson assisted by Kirsten Krantz scored on a header off a corner kick, and then Benson was assisted by Madi Winterburn to score again.
In the second half, Benson assisted by Paige Leonard scored the third goal.
Morgan Thompson had 7 saves for Sugar River, while Kaitlyn Peterson had 3 saves.
With the Regional Championship theirs, Sugar River next played at McFarland on Saturday, June 19th, for the Sectional Championship and a chance to compete at state. Unfortunately, the Raiders lost 0-4 to the Spartans.
Coach John Ziperski had this to say about the loss and the team's season, "I was proud of the ladies season. Our season's goals were to relaunch our traditions, find a level of gratitude and joy. The girls achieved success on the field, found ways to transition from a season off to rekindle the passion for soccer and introduce two new classes to the program. Achieving the sort of success we were able to find in 2019 was a great added bonus. We will miss our Senior leadership and skill, but also look forward to the lessons they were able to provide to all of our younger players. The game itself had us face a team that has not lost since 2018, and honestly, in my opinion, has the capacity to win the division on Friday. We struggled to find weaknesses, and they found solid ways to impose their speed, style and skill on Saturday."
