New Glarus Girls Win Over Belleville, Lose to Prairie du Chien

New Glarus Lady Knights won over the Lady Wildcats from Belleville in the 2nd round of the tournament on Friday, February 12.

The New Glarus Lady Knights hosted Belleville's Lady Wildcats for the second time in less than a week on Friday, February 12th, for a WIAA D3 Sectional. #6 seeded Belleville was fresh off their 61-52 win against #6 Platteville. #2 seeded New Glarus was rested up after a first round bye for the tournament.

"When you know your competition, you are only separated by a few miles and only a few days separate the games, you know it's going to be a battle and Friday night's game didn't disappoint!" commented Coach Kevin Parman.

It was a back and forth contest, with Belleville holding a 7-point lead at the halftime break. New Glarus came back out onto the court rejuvenized in the second half and outscored Belleville 33-16 to take the win. The final score was New Glarus 55, Belleville 45.

With 19 points, Lindsey Schadewalt led New Glarus in scoring, while Grace Nommensen scored 11 points and Jaylynn Benson scored 9 points.

The win over Belleville advanced New Glarus to play at #1 seeded Prairie du Chien, who beat #4 Lancaster to face New Glarus.

By the end of the first half, Prairie du Chien held a 28-15 lead over New Glarus, and the deficit continued through the second half. New Glarus lost the game, 32-52.

Jaylynn Benson led the team with 13 points, while Lindsey Schadewalt scored 12 points and Shealyn Klosterman-Havens scored 3 points.

"Tough way to end a great season! 19-5 overall," said Coach Parman. "I'm very proud of this team! All they had to overcome just this year. This team has sent the bar very high for years to come!"
