Belleville Girls Basketball finished this regular season, which could compare to none in the past, playing every game on the road and needing to play several times on back-to-back nights because of not being able to host their home games. This week saw the Belleville Wildcats starting their week by traveling to Poynette on Tuesday, February 2nd, to take on the Pumas. Coach Pharo said that his team came out on this evening and played the most complete game of their season, determined to show that they have made improvements from where the season started. The Wildcats went into halftime with a 32-28 lead and continued to build on it throughout the second half, leading to a convincing 15-point victory over the Pumas with a final score of 62-47.
Belleville was led by Callie Smith with 21 points and 11 rebounds, Alyssa Caskey with 15 points and 8 rebounds, along with Ava Foley's 11 points and 8 rebounds.
Then, due to weather conditions, the Wildcats were back in action on Wednesday to take on Marshall at Lakeside Lutheran. The game saw the Wildcats come out with good energy and saw them take an early lead over the Cardinals for the first seven minutes of the game. However, playing on back-to-back nights, the Wildcats were unable to keep up their energy and saw Marshall take advantage of this by hitting nine 3-pointers throughout the game and coming away with a 76-40 victory.
Belleville was led by Kenna Edge's 10 points, Alyssa Caskey's 8 points, and Callie Smith's 8 points and 10 rebounds.
Finally, to finish out their conference season, the Wildcats traveled to New Glarus to take on the Knights on Saturday, February 6th. The game saw Belleville come out of the locker room and show that they are a much better team than when they first faced the Knights in December. With great energy and great communication on defense, the Wildcats were able to build a 29-22 lead at the half. The second half of the game saw a very competitive game from both teams, and unfortunately New Glarus hit a couple of big 3-point shots which allowed them to escape with 51-49 win over the Wildcats.
Belleville was led by Ava Foley with a game high 19 points and Callie Smith with 15 points and 15 rebounds for the Wildcats.
The Wildcats started their playoff season at Platteville on Tuesday, February 9th.
