December 24, 2020

On December 15th, the Monticello Lady Ponies played at the Parkview Lady Vikings. Up at the half by a single point, Monticello went on to win the game. The final score was Monticello 28, Parkview 22.

“Tough to score for both teams,” said Coach Mark Gustafson about the game. “We played solid defense and did just enough on the offensive end to hold on for the win on the road.”

Mackie Errthum led the team with 13 points, while Harley Disch scored 6 points and McKenna Pfeuti scored 4 points.

The Lady Ponies played at Pecatonica on December 17th. Up by double digits at the half, Monticello hung onto their lead throughout the second to win the game. The final score was Monticello 40, Pecatonica 33.

“Harley Disch got off to a hot start in the first half with four 3-pointers. Katelyn Eyler had some 3-pointers as well as we were able to hit eight 3s in the first half,” said Coach Gustafson. “Eyler hit a 3-pointer with under 2 minutes to go in the game to extend our lead to 6 points, which we were able to hang on to because of our ability to hit free throws down the stretch. We went 10-12 from the line. Mackie Errthum had 7 blocked shots to go with her 7 points.”

Harley Disch led the Lady Ponies in scoring with 16 points, while Macey Freitag scored 9 points and Mackie Errthum put 7 points on the board.

On December 18th, Monticello played at Albany. Albany had a 28-17 lead going into halftime and won the game. The final score was Albany 49, Monticello 31.

“They are ranked sixth in the state,” Coach Gustafson said about the Albany team. “We were able to get scoring from Ellie Gustafson, Mackie Errthum, and Harley Disch that kept us in the game. We had some untimely turnovers and missed our free throws, plus Albany is really good. We played hard but came up short to a very good Albany Comets team.”

Ellie Gustafson scored 15 points to lead Monticello, while Mackie Errthum scored 12 points and Harley Disch put 4 points on the board.

Monticello played at Argyle on December 22nd. They will play at Juda on January 4th and at Barneveld on January 7th.
