New Glarus Lady Knights Win Over Darlington Redbirds
December 3, 2020
The New Glarus varsity girls basketball team opened their season with a home game against Darlington on Tuesday, November 24th. The Lady Knights led at the half, 30-5, and outscored Darlington in the second half 31-14 to come up with a 61-19 win over the visiting Redbirds.
During the second half of the game, senior Jaylynn Benson achieved her 1,000th career point. She joins five other girls basketball alums in reaching this milestone: Jeanne Bischoff, Class of 1982; Marlaina Feller, Class of 1984; Brenda Jelle, Class of 1990; Jessica Ott, Class of 1996; and Bri Hauge, Class of 2007.
"Congratulations to Jaylynn Benson and all of past and present teammates and coaches! Jaylynn reached the 1,000 point marker joining an elite list of female athletes in New Glarus," said Coach Kevin Parman. "And this wouldn't be possible without everyone involved."
Leading the team with 13 points was senior Shealyn Klosterman-Havens. Jaylynn Benson scored 12 points and Lindsey Schadewalt put 10 points on the board.
"The 20-21 basketball season has been challenging to say the least," commented Parman. "This year's team has been focusing on playing in the moment and leaving nothing in the tank each and every opportunity we have to compete."
The Lady Knights hosted Fort Atkinson on November 30th. They will host Black Hawk on December 3rd, Marshall on December 8th and Cambridge on December 11th.
