Chenoweth and Quaglia Advance to Sectionals Top Row: Robert Chenoweth wins the 152-pound championship. Bottom Row: Joe Quaglia takes second at 132 pounds.

On Saturday, February 15th, the Sugar River wrestling team started the road to the state tournament as they travelled to Prairie du Chien for the WIAA Division 2 Regionals. In order to advance, wrestlers must place in the top two of their weight class. Senior Robert Chenoweth placed first at 152 pounds and junior Joe Quaglia placed second at 132 pounds. Both will be wrestling on Saturday, February 22nd, in the WIAA Division 2 Sectional at Evansville for a chance to compete in the state championship tournament later this month.

Other top five place winners include Matthew Loshaw (5th at 120), Alonso Vega (4th at 126) Avery Lettman (4th at 138) and Hunter Olson (5th at 195).

"The team was placed in a very tough regional, but competed at a high level. Everyone wrestled with a lot of heart and determination today. There is a bright future for many of the wrestlers who did not make it onto Sectionals this year," said Coach Pete Swenson. "I know with continued work and competition many wrestlers will be taking those steps to run deep into the tournament series. Both Joe and Robbie have continued to lead the Raiders. Each one have used their experience and determination throughout the season. At this time of the year there are no easy matches and each new match is the most important. Come Saturday, both will have to wrestle to the best of their ability. I know both are capable of making it to State, but nothing is guaranteed. It will be a fun and exciting atmosphere!"
