Cheesemakers Shut Out Monona Grove
February 13, 2020
On February 4th, the Monroe Cheesemakers co-op hockey team hosted the Milton Redhawks. Leading for the first period on 2 goals made by Payton Stauffacher and Cade Janecke, they found themselves tied with Milton at the end of the second period. In the third period, Cade Janecke, assisted by Jared Dillon, scored a goal to pull ahead but Milton came back with a goal of their own to tie it up and send the game into OT. Neither team was able to score in OT and the game ended in a 3-3 tie.
Goalie Heath Bear had 35 saves on goal.
On Saturday, February 8th, the team traveled to Hartmeyer Ice Arena to face Monona Grove. Blaze Janecke, assisted by Luke Kuberski and Ryan Molitor on a power play, scored the lone goal for the team. Monroe won, 1-0.
The Cheesemakers are currently 14-6 overall, and 5-4 in the Badger South, which puts them in fourth place in the conference. They have one regular season game left at McFarland, and have been seeded #10 in the WIAA 2020 Boys Hockey Tournament in Division 1. They will play a regional game at #7 Reedsburg at 7:00 p.m., on February 18th, with the winner of that game moving on to play #2 seeded Edgewood at LaBahn Arena on February 20 or 21.
