The New Glarus Knights girls basketball team traveled to play Belleville on Tuesday, January 14. Leading by 11 at the half, 33-22, the Knights went on to win the game 70-43.

Leading the balanced scoring attack was junior Jaylynn Benson with 21 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Dylan Noll contributed 17 points. Senior Lily Himmelmann added 12 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists. Sophomore Ellie Eichelkraut made some great cuts to the basket and contributed 10 points. Senior Brooke Watrud added 5 points, pulled down 12 rebounds and had 4 assists.

“This was a great team win for the Knights where they played outstanding team defense,” said Coach Kim Burton.

On Friday, January 17, the division 3 two-time defending state champs Marshall came to New Glarus. Marshall showed their dominance early, leading at halftime 39-15. The final score was Marshall 70, New Glarus 31.

Jaylynn Benson had 7 points for the Knights, while Dylan Noll, Shea Klosterman-Havens and Lily Himmelmann each contributed 5 points.

The Lady Knights hosted Deerfield on January 20th. They will play at Waterloo on January 23rd and host Cambridge on January 28th.
