The Raiders wrestling team held their home invitational, the Raider Scramble, in New Glarus on Saturday, December 14th. The tournament featured many ranked wrestlers from all over the state and Sugar River placed 6th overall.
"Being early in the season, the team is still working on many aspects of the sport. The effort by all has been tremendous! Many of the new wrestlers are still learning about the importance of positioning themselves and body control," said Coach Pete Swenson. "The Raiders came away on Saturday with five wrestlers placing in the top 5. At 113, Nathan Balderas took third place and teammate Samantha Peterson took 4th place. At 132, Joe Quaglia came away with the championship. Joe has been wrestling with a chip on his shoulder. He has only given up one takedown this season and looks like he's on a mission. At 160, Robbie Chenoweth narrowly missed out on being in the finals, but finished with a 4th place finish. Robbie continues to do everything right. Any loss at this point of the season is a way to improve. Lastly, sophomore Hunter Olson began his varsity career by taking 4th at 220."
