Ponies Continue Winning Streak

The Monticello Ponies boys basketball team hosted Argyle on December 10th. The Ponies held a commanding 31-12 lead at the half and went on to win the game, 59-29.

Starting the game with a 9-0 run, the Ponies took off and never looked back. Ten Ponies scored at least 1 point during the win.

Leading the team with 19 points was Reece Rufer, who also had 8 rebounds. Peter Gustafson put 16 points on the board and pulled down 8 rebounds, Simon Blohowiak scored 7 points and had 7 rebounds and Owen Ace scored 6 points.

On Friday, December 13th, the Ponies played at Barneveld. Leading at the half, 30-22, the Ponies fought hard and won 60-54.

Starting the game with an 11-2 run, the Ponies soon saw Barneveld tie it up at 13 with about 8 minutes remaining in the first half. With 3:10 left in the first, the game was again tied, at 21, but Monticello went on a 9-1 run to pull ahead.

In the second half, the game was tied again with less than 2 minutes left in regulation but the Ponies held on with an 11-5 run to win it.

Reece Rufer led Monticello with 21 points and had 6 rebounds, while Peter Gustafson scored 18 points and had 10 rebounds, Rudy Wicker scored 9 points and had 5 rebounds and Simon Blohowiak scored 8 points and had 7 rebounds.

Monticello will host Juda on December 19th, before traveling to Brodhead on January 2nd and will then return home to host Belleville on January 6th.
