Knights Knocked Out of Playoffs by Prairie du Chien
October 31, 2019
On Friday evening, the NGM Football team traveled to Prairie du Chien to play the Blackhawks in a Level I play-off game. The Knights were looking to build on last year's Level I victory.
The game started with the Knights turning the ball over on a backwards lateral, in which Prairie du Chien advanced deep into NGM territory. The NGM defense stood tall and ended the threat with an interception by Connor Siegenthaler. The Knights responded on the next drive with a 74-yard touchdown pass from Mason Martinson to Darris Schuett. Schuett caught the ball just past the line of scrimmage, and raced down the sideline for the score and a 7-0 lead.
The NGM defense fought valiantly and held off several PDC drives before surrendering two. The last score of the half was merely with seconds left and Prairie du Chien led 12-7 at halftime.
Prairie du Chien extended the lead to 20-7 late in the third quarter, but the NGM offense responded with another Martinson to Schuett pass for a 57-yard touchdown. The extra point cut the lead to 20-14. Unfortunately, the Prairie du Chien run game was rolling and scored two more scores late. The final score was 35-14, in favor of the Blackhawks.
Darris Schuett led all receivers with three catches for 141 yards and two touchdowns. Mason Martinson was 7 of 16 passing for 177 yards. The Knights defense was led by Connor Siegenthaler and Nathan Streiff, who both had key interceptions to stop Prairie du Chien drives.
