Raider Girls to Host Cambridge-Deerfield for Regionals

The regular season is winding down quickly, and the girls varsity soccer team had another busy week of play.
On Tuesday, they played non-conference foe Mount Horeb at home to a 0-0 tie in regulation. Sugar River had 4 saves and Mt. Horeb 3. The girls also recognized their parents that evening. Nice to see all the parents’ support!
Thursday the girls traveled to Watertown to take on another conference team of Luther Preparatory School. Another hard-fought matchup ending in a 1-0 shutout for their 11th of the season. Ellie Gentilli had the lone Raider goal with an assist from Kirsten Krantz in the first 5 minutes of action. Sugar River had 1 save and Luther Prep had 6.
Finally, Friday was the last game of the week against Lakeside Lutheran at home. The girls dominated right from the start! Senior Morgan Hustad and freshman Callie Smith each had 2 goals apiece. Ellie Gentilli, Kirsten Krantz, Kallie Ace, and JayLynn Benson also rounded out the goal, scoring with 1 apiece. Final score Raiders 8, Lakeside Lutheran 0. Sugar River 3 saves, Lakeside 6.
The Raiders hosted Wisconsin Heights on May 21st and play at DeForest on May 23rd.
Regionals begin on Thursday, May 30, and Sugar River will be hosting Cambridge-Deerfield at 7:00 p.m. The Raiders are seeded #3 for the tournament and the winner of the game against #14 Cambridge-Deerfield will play the winner of the #11 Mauston vs #6 Platteville/Lancaster game on Saturday, June 1st.
The Raiders’ overall record now stands at 15-1-4, and are 6-0 in Capitol Conference standing. Finish strong girls!
