On January 4th, the Monticello Ponies girls basketball team hosted Argyle. Monticello was down at halftime 20-41, and even though they picked up their scoring in the second half to keep an almost even pace with the Orioles, the Ponies lost the game, 51-74.

"We did not have the defensive intensity that we needed in the 1st half. Argyle is extremely talented and took advantage of our lack of defensive pressure," said Coach Mark Gustafson. "We were able to play with them in the second half, but were not able to challenge them."

Leading the Ponies in scoring was Alyssen Noriega, with 19 points. Miah Brokopp scored 9 points and Abby Wicker scored 8 points.

The team will host Juda on January 10th and Barneveld on January 15th before heading to Belmont on January 18th. The team has a 2-3 record in conference play, and 5-6 overall.
