Swim Team Places Sixth at State Competition

The 400 Free Relay team of Mekenzie Hammer, Nina Schiro, Morgan Erstad and Francesca Schiro swam to a fourth place finish at the state tournament, setting a new team record with a time of 3:38.38. Mekenzie is also the D2 state champion in the 200 IM.
On Friday night, the Monroe-New Glarus swim team placed sixth with 118 points at the Division 2 State Meet, held at the UW-Natatorium.

On Friday, New Glarus/Monroe State Swimming Champion Mekenzie Hammer took first place in the 200 IM with a time of 2:08.37. She not only won the event, she also broke the team record. On Monday, New Glarus High School Principal Dr. Jeff Eichelkraut recognized Mekenzie's achievement at an assembly in her honor.
"What an exciting night for MNG!" said Coach Linda Moser.
Breaking the team record in the 200 IM with a time of 2:08.37, Mekenzie Hammer won the event and is the new D2 state champion.
In the 500 Free, Morgan Erstad placed sixth with a PR time of 5:16.10. Nina Schiro also PRd in the event with a time of 5:27.04.
In the 100 Backstroke, Mekenzie Hammer and Morgan Erstad both set new PRs for themselves. Hammer placed third with a time of 57.88, and Erstad placed fifth with a time of 58.48.
The two relay teams also set new team records. The Medley Relay team of Mekenzie Hammer, Karley Michels, Alyssa Roelli and Morgan Erstad finished in eighth place with a time of 1:52.37. The 400 Free Relay team of Mekenzie Hammer, Nina Schiro, Francesca Schiro and Morgan Erstad swam to a fourth place finish, with a time of 3:38.38.
