The Monroe-New Glarus varsity swim team finished their dual meet season with a victory on Tuesday, October 16th, against Monona Grove. Varsity won 101-69, while JV lost 57-87.

“Their focus now is to get healthy, they have been battling the flu, and get stronger,” said Coach Linda Moser.

The team consisting of Morgan Erstad, Karley Michels, Mekenzie Hammer and Nina Schiro won the 200Y Medley Relay with a time of 1:59.07. Placing third was the team of Anna Newcomer, Peyton Yaun, Samantha Schiro and Emily Meritt with a time of 2:10.90, the team of Elsa Schaefer, Tatiana Bobrowicz, Kayleigh Nesbitt and Laurel Houston placed fifth with a time of 2:23.64.

In the 200Y Freestyle, Morgan Erstad placed second with a time of 2:06.82, while Anna Newcomer placed third with a time of 2:13.70 and Kendra Wenger finished in fourth place with a time of 2:17.03.

Mekenzie Hammer won the 200Y IM with a time of 2:16.31. Karley Michels placed third with a time of 2:37.91 and Elsa Schaefer placed fourth with a time of 2:38.56.

In the 50Y Freestyle, Francesca Schiro finished second with a time of 27.02, Alyssa Roelli finished third with a time of 27.32 and Nina Schiro finished fifth with a time of 27.67.

In the 100Y Butterfly, Alyssa Roelli placed second with a time of 1:04.99, Samantha Schiro finished fourth with a time of 1:14.48 and Peyton Yaun finished fifth with a time of 1:15.74.

Francesca Schiro won the 100Y Freestyle with a time of 58.26. Kendra Wenger placed third with a time of 1:02.53 and Emily Meritt placed fourth with a time of 1:04.43.

Nina Schiro won the 500Y Freestyle with a time of 5:46.12. Anna Newcomer placed second with a time of 6:09.65 and Tatiana Bobrowicz placed sixth with a time of 6:50.17.

The team of Alyssa Roelli, Kendra Wenger, Francesca Schiro and Morgan Erstad won the 200Y Freestyle Relay with a time of 1:47.82. Placing fourth, with a time of 1:59.32, was the team of Karley Michels, Emily Meritt, Samantha Schiro and Laurel Houston, and the team of Dee Delforge, Kayleigh Nesbitt, Taylor Rufer and Elsa Schaefer finished in fifth, with a time of 2:12.12.

Mekenzie Hammer won the 100Y Backstroke with a time of 1:00.33. Morgan Erstad placed second with a time of 1:03.54 and Kayleigh Nesbitt placed sixth with a time of 1:29.76.

In the 100Y Breaststroke, Karley Michels placed second with a time of 1:15.47, while Peyton Yaun finished fourth with a time of 1:18.68 and Elsa Schaefer placed fifth with a time of 1:20.77.

The team of Alyssa Roelli, Nina Schiro, Francesca Schiro and Mekenzie Hammer won the 400Y Freestyle Relay with a time of 3:52.29. Placing third, with a time of 4:21.30, was the team of Kendra Wenger, Laurel Houston, Peyton Yaun and Anna Newcomer.

On Saturday, October 20th, the team swam to a second place finish at the Hillmen Invite in Platteville.

“It was the best finish they have had at the Hillmen Invite. The girls have been battling the flu and colds all week, so even though their times were a little off they still swam with determination and confidence,” said Moser. “There were many highlights of the meet and several PRs, but probably the biggest one was that Morgan Erstad broke the team record for the 500 free. She swam a 5:30.45 breaking the old record held by her teammate, Nina Schiro, of 5:33.25. We have a lot of work ahead of us this week as we prepare for the Badger South Conference meet on Saturday at Stoughton High School.”

The team of Mekenzie Hammer, Karley Michels, Alyssa Roelli and Cammi Ganshert placed third in the 200Y Medley Relay, with a time of 1:58.45. Placing tenth was the team of Nina Schiro, Peyton Yaun, Samantha Schiro and Laurel Houston with a time of 2:06.13.

Morgan Erstad won the 200Y Freestyle with a time of 2:02.99, while Anna Newcomer placed eighth with a time of 2:15.10.

In the 200Y IM, Mekenzie Hammer placed second with a time of 2:20.21.

In the 100Y IM, Alyssa Roelli placed sixth with a time of 1:09.61, while Elsa Schaefer placed fourteenth with a time of 1:14.70.

In the 50Y Freestyle, Francesca Schiro placed third with a time of 26.74, while Cammi Ganshert placed tenth with a time of 27.21, Laurel Houston placed seventeenth with a time of 28.91 and Anna Latimer placed thirty-fifth with a time of 39.23.

In the 100Y Butterfly, Alyssa Roelli placed fifth with a time of 1:07.08 while Samantha Schiro placed tenth with a time of 1:11.96.

In the 100Y Freestyle, Francesca Schiro placed fourth with a time of 57.41 while Kendra Wenger placed eleventh with a time of 1:01.03.

Morgan Erstad won the 500Y Freestyle with a time of 5:30.45 while Nina Schiro placed fourth with a time of 5:44.97.

In the 200Y Freestyle Relay, the team of Cammi Ganshert, Kendra Wenger, Francesca Schiro and Morgan Erstad placed sixth with a time of 1:48.73 while the team of Samantha Schiro, Karley Michels, Peyton Yaun and Anna Newcomer finished ninth with a time of 1:55.48.

Mekenzie Hammer won the 100Y Backstroke with a time of 1:00.17 while Nina Schiro finished fourth with a time of 1:05.77.

In the 100Y Breaststroke, Karley Michels placed second with a time of 1:14.64 while Peyton Yaun finished eighth with a time of 1:17.86, Anna Newcomer finished tenth with a time of 1:19.39, Elsa Schaefer finished fourteenth with a time of 1:21.04 and Dee Delforge finished nineteenth with a time of 1:26.04.

Winning the 400Y Freestyle Relay was the team of Mekenzie Hammer, Nina Schiro, Francesca Schiro and Morgan Erstad with a time of 3:49.41 while the team of Alyssa Roelli, Anna Newcomer, Kendra Wenger and Cammi Ganshert placed sixth with a time of 4:04.41.

The Badger South Conference Meet will be held at Stoughton High School on Saturday, October 27, 2018, beginning at 1:00 p.m.
