Marty Bags Record Setting Turkey
August 2, 2018
While hunting with a friend outside of New Glarus in May, Monticello-native Heath Marty nabbed an Eastern Wild Turkey that broke the Wisconsin record and two national records.
The turkey, which weighed in at 25 pounds, 6 ounces, had six beards ranging between 11 3/16 inches and 3 5/16 inches. The grand score was 132.75, which almost doubled Wisconsin's previous record, beat the national eastern (wild turkey) record by almost 35 points and the overall national record by 12 points. Heath received a certificate from the National Wild Turkey Federation and a pin.
Marty lured the bird in with a turkey fan and harvested it with a crossbow and is planning on having it mounted.
