Sugar River Advances to Sectional Semifinal Game

On Thursday, May 24th, the Sugar River Raiders girls soccer team honored their senior players and managers. During the game, the ladies beat Stoughton, 2-1, to finish the regular season with a record of 14-0-1. The #2 Sugar River girls soccer team played a Regional Semifinal game against #15 Adams-Friendship on May 31st at home. They shut out the visitors, 11-0.
Kalin O'Rourke assisted by Aimee Sies scored a little more than two and a half minutes into the game and shortly thereafter, O'Rourke scored again, this time assisted by Ellawyn Fong. Nine minutes later, O'Rourke assisted by Sies found the back of the goal again. The next three scores were quick. Rylee Hubbard assisted by Kallie Ace scored, a minute later Sydney Gentilli assisted by Rylee Hubbard found the back of the goal and seconds later Kallie Ace scored. Rylee Hubbard scored the final goal of the first half.
In the second half scores were made by Regyn Jelle assisted by JayLynn Benson, Sydney Gentilli assisted by Lauren Theis, Kirsten Krantz assisted by Samantha Trainor and Caitlin Wieser assisted by Kalin O'Rourke.
Rachael Heittola had two saves as goalie and Skylar Butenhoff had one.
With that win, Sugar River advanced to the Regional Finals to face Evansville on Saturday, June 2nd. Under overcast skies in Belleville, the team shut out #7 Evansville, 5-0.
Twenty-four seconds into the game, Aimee Sies scored the first goal for the team. Ten minutes later, Kalin O'Rourke assisted by Morgan Hustad found the back of the goal. The final two goals of the half were scored by Regyn Jelle assisted by Kalin O'Rourke and Julia McNamer assisted by Aimee Sies.
The second half score for Sugar River was made by Kalin O'Rourke assisted by Ellie Gentilli.
Rachael Heittola had two saves at goalie while Skylar Butenhoff had four.
Sugar River now advances to the Sectional Semifinals, where they will face #3 Mount Horeb at Belleville on Thursday, June 7th, at 7:00 p.m. The winner will become Sectional Champion and will face the winner of the Edgewood vs McFarland game in Mount Horeb on Saturday, June 9th, at 4:00 p.m. The state tournament will take place on Friday, June 15th.
