Sugar River Advances Two Wrestlers to Sectionals

Joe Quaglia (106 Pounds) and Robert Chenoweth (120 Pounds) placed second and will represent Raider Wrestling at Sectionals on February 17th.

The Sugar River Raiders Wrestling Team hosted a WIAA Division 2 Regional at Belleville High School on Saturday, February 10th. The top two wrestlers in each weight class advance to Sectionals.  Joe Quaglia (106 Pounds) and Robert Chenoweth (120 Pounds) both finished second and will compete at Sectionals in Richland Center for an opportunity to wrestle in the 2018 State Wrestling Tournament.  Additionally, Max Gerner (132 Pounds) and Justin Knoebl (145 Pounds) placed third and are alternates for Sectionals if anyone in their weight class becomes sick or injured.  

Results from the Regional are as follows:

Wrestling at 106 lbs, Joe Quaglia (28-10) placed second and scored 20 team points. Quaglia received a bye in round one and won by fall over Evansville/Albany's Gavin Frey in round two. In the first place match, Quaglia fell to Edgerton's Ryen Hazzard. Quaglia faced Frey again in the second place match, and won by rule.

Wrestling at 120 lbs, Robert Chenoweth (27-12) placed second and scored 20 team points. Chenoweth received a bye in round one and in round two won by fall over Edgerton's Jacob Davis. In the first place match, Evansville/Albany's Evan Senter won by decision over Chenoweth. Chenoweth again faced Davis in the second place match, and won by rule.

Wrestling at 126 lbs, Brian Hollis (4-7) placed fifth and scored 5 team points. In round one, Hollis fell to Brodhead/Juda's Jayson Starr and then received byes for his last two rounds.

Wrestling at 132 lbs, Max Gerner (27-11) placed third and scored 12 team points. Gerner received a bye in round one and in round two fell to Evansville/Albany's Adam Staver. Gerner won by fall over Turner's Gavin Campbell in the third place match. In the second place match, Gerner faced Staver again, and lost by rule.

Wrestling at 138 lbs, Trevor Enloe (26-15) placed fourth and scored 11 team points. In round one, Enloe won by fall over Monroe's Aiden Sweeney. Enloe lost by tech fall to Clinton's Colin Warpula in round two and in the third place match, Enloe lost in overtime to Evansville/Albany's Pat Crull.

Wrestling at 145 lbs, Justin Knoebl (14-9) placed third and scored 12 team points. In round one, Knoebl received a bye. He lost by decision in round two to Alex Witt of Monroe. In the third place match, Knoebl won by fall over Turner's Nate Draeving and in the second place match Knoebl lost by rule to Monroe's Witt.

Wrestling at 152 lbs, Jack Diederich (22-16) placed fifth and scored 5 team points. In round one, Diederich lost by major decision to Monroe's Travis Wolf. Diederich received byes for his last two rounds.

Wrestling at 285 lbs, Daniel Enloe (23-13) placed fourth and scored 7 team points. In round one, Enloe received a bye. Enloe lost round two by fall to Monroe's Tyson Welsch. In the third place match, Enloe lost by medical forfeit to Clinton's Trevor Hage.
