Monticello Beats Highland in Six Rivers Crossover
February 1, 2018
The Monticello girls basketball team hosted Highland in a Six Rivers Crossover game on January 26th. Up by 10 at the half, the Ponies kept that momentum going through the second half and won the game, 54-49.
“Highland cut the lead to 2 with about three minutes left as they picked up the intensity and caused us to turn the ball over and take some poor shots,” said Coach Mark Gustafson. “We were able to make free throws down the stretch and were able to overcome some foul trouble. We had very balanced scoring as well. We were able to get some good looks at the end of the game that we converted and held on to the 5-point victory.”
Miah Brokopp led the Ponies in scoring with 16 points, which included three 3-pointers. Sarah Blumer scored 9 points, while Alyssen Noriega and Mackie Errthum each scored 8 points.
The Ponies hosted Madison Country Day on January 29th and play at Albany on February 1st before returning home to face Argyle on February 6th. They have a record of 2-6 in the Six Rivers East.
