Lady Knights Split at Tournament

The New Glarus Knights girls basketball team played at the Cuba City Holiday Tournament on December 27th and 28th.

On December 27th, the team played Cuba City. Cuba City was leading at the half, 34-27, and while the Knights played hard they couldn’t come up with the win. The final score was Cuba City 69, New Glarus 56.

Willow Lee scored 14 points and pulled down five rebounds for New Glarus while Lexi Krause scored 12 points and had six rebounds and Morgan Hustad put 9 points on the board.

The December 28th game was against River Ridge/Scales Mound, a team from Illinois. The Knights came out playing strong and stayed strong throughout the first half, leading at the half, 42-19. Coach Kim Burton said the girls continued to talk and play with intensity throughout the game. New Glarus won, 71-43.

Leading the team in scoring was freshman JayLynn Benson, who finished with a season high of 15 points. Julia Barnaby scored 14 points and had 12 rebounds and five assists, Willow Lee put 14 points on the board and Riley Parker added 7 to the win.

The Knights host Cambridge on January 4th and will host Waterloo on January 9th.
