Monticello Plays Well at Brodhead Invite

The Monticello volleyball team played at the Brodhead Tournament on Saturday, September 9th and finished 1-1 in match play, losing two close sets to Beloit Turner, 22-25 and 23-25. The team then played New Glarus, winning 25-13 and 25-22.

In pool play, the Ponies lost to Monroe and Whitewater.

“Monticello started slow against division 2 and 3 schools, but finished the day strong,” said Coach Scott Smice. “All hitting at or around .300 for the tournament, great job.”

Hannah Zanow led the way for the Ponies with 22 kills, Abby Wicker had 14 kills, Courtney Kammes had 12 kills, Alaya Hummel had 11 kills, and Miah Brokopp had 9 kills. Miah Brokopp had 59 assists and Lindsey Pence had 38 assists. Alyssen Noriega lead the team with 97 digs. Abby Wicker lead the team with 7 blocks, and as a team had 25 blocks for the day.

“Team serving was very good,” said Coach Smice. Courtney Kammes led the team with aces with 8 and Alyssen Noriega had 7, Miah Brokopp had 5 and Lindsey Pence had 5 as well.

“Good tournament for Monticello and some valuable experience against some very good competition,” finished Coach Smice.

Monticello will host Juda on September 14th at 7:00 p.m., and on September 19th will play at Pecatonica.
