Bantam A Takes Third at State

The 2017 State Bantam 3A Hockey Tournament was held March 4-5. The Avalanche Bantam A represented Region 4 in the tournament. The Avalanche got off to a slow start against Oshkosh and were down 2-0 at the end of the second period. Tessa Janecke, on passes from Hayden Roth and Haley Knauf, found the back of the net at the top of the third. Two minutes later Cade Janecke lit the lamp with assists from Cooper Dreyfus and Ryan Molitor. Tied 2-2, the Avalanche kept momentum with Hayden Roth (assisted by Cade Janecke) scoring the game winning goal. The Avalanche had an astounding 73 shot on goal to Oshkosh's 17.

That afternoon the Avalanche took on Sauk Prairie in a fast paced, physical game. Sauk scored the only goal in the first period. The Avalanche responded with two back-to-back goals (Cooper Dreyfus and Hayden Roth, assisted by Luke Kuberski, Kaiden Klitzke, and Tessa Janecke) in the second period. With the scored tied 2-2 at the end of the second, both teams came out strong in the third period. Cade Janecke, assisted by Hayden Roth, scored the final Avalanche goal. At the end of the third, Sauk scored, tying the game 3-3. The game went into an eight-minute overtime. Both teams fought hard and the overtime ended with no one scoring. The game ensued into double overtime. Unfortunately, Sauk scored at 2:57 into overtime. Jayden Johnson recorded 24 saves.

On Sunday, the Avalanche was playing for the third place state trophy against Amery. The game proved to be an easy victory for the Avalanche, shutting them out 7-0. Seven different Avalanche players lit the lamp: Cade Janecke, Cooper Dreyfus, Anika Einbeck, Broc Kuberski, Hayden Roth, Alyssa Knauf, and Ryan Molitor. Earning assists were Luke Kuberski (2), Hayden Roth (2), Tessa Janecke (2), and Cooper Dreyfus. Jayden Johnson recorded 17 saves and earned a shutout patch.
