In their final game of the regular season, the Belleville Wildcats traveled north to face Watertown Luther Prep. The Wildcats were at a disadvantage at halftime, trailing by 9 points, but came out in the second half and hustled. It wasn't enough, however, as the Wildcats fell to the Phoenix, 59-64.
"Prep jumped all over us to start the game as they hit some shots early on and we had some really good looks go in and out. We fought our way back and actually took the lead by four but they went on another run to end the half up nine," said Coach Jarod Wichser. "It was a game of runs back and forth and we ran out of time while fighting our way back late in the second half. Each time we had them on the ropes we would have a lapse of 3 or 4 possessions where we'd have some sort of breakdown and they would take full advantage of that."
Leading the team in scoring was Daniel Meier, who had 17 points, which included five successful 3-point shots. Tony O'Connor scored 13 points and Drew Shrader put 12 points on the board for the team.
"When we play focused and consistent we are a tough team to beat," concluded Wichser. "Unfortunately, we haven't been able to do that in as many games as we would've liked."
The Wildcats finished their season 4-6 in conference play, with an overall record of 8-14. They took on Cuba City in a WIAA Regional game on Tuesday, February 28th.
