The Sugar River wrestling team had a successful weekend, placing second place as a team at the Capitol Conference tournament.

Justin Knoebl, Max Gerner, John Chenoweth, and Tanner Jelle made it into the finals for the Raiders, with Chenoweth coming away with a first place win.

"John has been a four-year finalist in the tournament, winning it his freshman and now senior year.  It's a great way for him to complete his conference matches," said Coach Peter Swenson. On top of all that, John was voted as Conference Wrestler of the Year.

It was a team effort for the Raiders to end the meet as high as they did.  Place winners included Robert Chenoweth, 3rd Place; Justin Knoebl, 2nd Place; Max Gerner, 2nd Place; Trevor Enloe, 5th Place; Jack Diederich, 6th Place; Hayden Latsch, 5th Place; Tyler Varney, 5th Place; Calvin Binger, 5th Place; Noah Leonard, 4th Place; Tanner Jelle, 2nd Place; and Daniel Enloe, 4th Place.

"In order for a team to place high in tournaments you have to rely on everyone to score bonus points throughout the tournament.  Many wrestlers stepped up and did a great job!  Trevor Enloe and Noah Leonard had limited time on varsity this year, but scored a lot of team points.  Individuals like that are so important to a team," explained Swenson.

The Raiders next challenge will be Regionals, at Beloit Turner.  Wrestling is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m.  Coach Swenson exclaimed, "Come out and cheer your Raiders onto the WIAA State Tournament!"
