Raider Wrestling Gearing Up for Season
Wrestlers of all age levels kicked off their season on Saturday, November 12th, with a clinic led by former UW Badger, and current UW-Platteville Assistant Coach, Joe Terrill.
The youth wrestlers played games to help enforce their new skills and worked hard on set-ups and takedowns.
The middle and high school wrestlers worked on set-ups, takedowns and some throws.
The Raiders Varsity team is looking to defend its Conference Championship this season. Thirteen letter winners are returning, including Conference and Regional Finalist John Chenoweth. Trent Siegenthaler and Tanner Jelle, also Conference Finalists, also return to lead the Raiders in the upper weights. Team Captain Max Gerner is poised to have a great season as a lighter weight competitor.
Coach Swenson is excited about the possibility of this year’s roster. “We have pretty much everyone back, with many having Varsity experience. Also we have some nice additions to the team from the incoming freshman and new members. We are setting our expectations high for this season.”
Official team practices for youth and high school began on Monday, November 14th. The high school team begins their season on November 26th, with a scrimmage at Monroe. The Raider’s first dual meet is against Beloit Turner on Thursday, December 1st, at home in the CH Hageman Gym. Wrestling begins at 6:30 p.m. Come out and cheer on your Raider wrestling team!
