Sugar River Euchre

In J&M Bar’s disappointing 4-point loss to the Screaming-Eagles, Jim Gehin and Bob Sarbacker caught the brunt of the cool night air blowing off Lake Belle View last Thursday night as they could only amass 73 points, this week’s low score. The River-Rats led Eagle Heights the entire match but could not secure the 2-point lead they held going into the 8th frame, dropping 6 points in the final frame for a score of 379 to 375.

The Norsk Cowboys continued their cattle drive to the top as they pushed Monte’s Mounties back across the Canadian border by 35. Mike Pickett and Marvin Thompson were the Cowboy’s star trail blazers, with their 114 points falling 1-point off of this week’s high score. That honor goes to Pipe-Benders Tiny Zander and Greg Stutz, as they were able to flush 115 out of the Pranksters. Now one might think based on last week’s article that Tiny and Greg had a perfect score with 115 points, but that would not be the case. Not sure what was going through this reporter’s head last week, but a perfect score will continue to be 120 points as always, sorry Tiny and Greg. Tiny and Greg’s efforts help put the clamps on Shenanigans as Jones’ Plumbing won by 24 points, crimping Shenanigans efforts to get out of the cellar.

Hooterville Shufflers’ new tactic of trying to starve the Cheese-Eaters by eliminating the normal halftime cheese and crackers tray seemed to work as the Shufflers were able to put the moves on New Glarus, trapping them 33 points short of a win. Dewey Haag and Dave Herfel had 113 points for the Shufflers.

As for the other Hooterville team, Dave Steinhauer and Steve Hoffmaster steamed ahead of fellow Express players with 114 points as the rest of the team continued having trouble finding traction and fell victims to their opponent for the second straight week. It was the Kleeman’s Hay-Shakers that secured a 20-point advantage over the Express, putting last year’s champions in the cellar with two other teams.

Standings: Jones’ Plumbing 2-0; Kleeman’s 2-0; Norsk 2-0; Eagle Heights 1-1; Hooterville Shufflers 1-1; Monte’s 1-1; New Glarus 1-1; Hooterville Express 0-2; J&M Bar 0-2; Shenanigans 0-2.

Schedule for October 20: Monte’s @ Kleeman’s (8:00); Shenanigans @ New Glarus (8:00); J&M Bar @ Norsk Golf Bowl (8:00); Hooterville Shufflers @ Eagle Heights (7:00); Hooterville Express @ Jones’ Plumbing (8:00).
