Monticello Ponies Volleyball Off to Strong Start

The Monticello Ponies volleyball conference season started off with a bang; they were 3-0 after winning against Juda in a five set thriller, winning over Pecatonica in four sets and then beating visitor Albany in three games.
On Tuesday, September 13th, the team traveled to South Wayne, losing 3-2 in an exciting match against the Blackhawk Warriors.
Thursday, September 15th, they hosted the undefeated Argyle Orioles. The Orioles won in four games.
On Saturday, September 17th, the Ponies hosted a quad tournament with Albany, Darlington and Williams Bay attending. Monticello finished in third place.
In the first match, the Ponies faced the Albany Comets and won the match, 3-0. In the second match they took on the Darlington Redbirds, however, as Coach Scott Smice explained, "They were competitive sets." The last match of the day was versus Williams Bay, which went to five sets with Monticello losing the last set 15-12. Darlington won the tournament, with Williams Bay taking second place, and Monticello in third.
The next two games will be at home, they face Barneveld on September 20th and Juda on September 22nd. The Juda game is also Parent's Night. The Ponies sit at third place in the Six Rivers-East.
"The girls are playing exciting volleyball and improving every match, looking forward to the second half of conference play and post season actions," said Coach Scott Smice. "This year's varsity team has seven seniors, two juniors and three sophomores, with a total of 26 girls out for volleyball this season. Go Ponies!"
