Maire and Gilbertson Qualify for State
Last Saturday on a cold, windy and rainy course, the Belleville Cross Country team competed in Darlington for their sectional race, which is a state qualifier.
Both teams did an outstanding job, with the boy's team placing sixth out of 17 teams and the girl's placing eighth out of 15 teams.
The girl's team was led by Noelle Maire, who was the sectional champ and the first individual qualifier with a time of 19:27.
She was followed by Rachel Uebelacker (23:58), Lexi Walker (24:36), Mili Julian (24:41), Clarice Loeffelholz (25:16), Britney Markhardt (25:46), and Brittany Kiefer (26:05).
Congratulations ladies for a great season!
The boy's side was led by Tyler Gilbertson (17:32), who needed a seventh place overall to claim a state berth, but was able to pass two runners in the final 800 meters and finish fifth overall, giving him the third individual qualifying time.
Gilbertson was followed by strong finishes from Justin Edge (18:39), Caden O'Rourke (19:23), Jordan Hosler (19:25), Aiden Pottratz (21:09), Josh Bowers (21:09), and Gary Salmela (21:17).
Way to go boys!!!
The State Meet is at the Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids.
