Wildcats Fall to Wisconsin Dells, Lodi, and Luther Prep

On Saturday, May 2, the Wildcats baseball team squared off against Wisconsin Dells at home. Belleville was defeated 14-4, with Gorski taking the loss on the mound.
Gorski pitched the first three innings earning three strikeouts while also walking one and allowing 11 hits, 12 runs, and 10 earned runs. Schwoegler then hurled the ball the next three innings where he had two hits, two runs, one earned run and no walks or strikeouts.
Offensively, McNamer was one for two, and Shrader was one for three.
“Five defensive errors did not help the young Wildcats against a very potent Chiefs offense. The Wildcats were able to score some runs with some aggressive base running in the third inning to cut the Chiefs’ lead to four runs, but a six-run fourth inning by the Chiefs put the game out of reach for good,” explained Head Coach Jon Benash.
On Friday, May 1, the Wildcats were dominated by the Lodi Blue Devils on the road. Lodi won 10-0.
Zimmerman went two for two, and Hackman was one for two.
“With the exception of Zimmerman’s two hits in two at bats, including a long double to deep centerfield, the Wildcat offense struggled to get going against Lodi pitching,” said Benash. “The Blue Devils, on the other hand, were able to place hits wherever they needed them, scoring 10 runs in their first four frames.”
Shrader pitched three innings and an out for Belleville. He earned one strikeout and walked four while giving up nine hits and nine runs with seven of them being earned runs. Schwoegler pitched the last out for the Wildcats, and he gave up three hits and one run.
Earlier that week, Belleville was dismantled by Luther Preparatory 10-0 at home.
McMillan hurled the ball all five innings for the Wildcats; he gave up eight hits and two earned runs while walking and striking out no one.
At the plate, Hoffman was two for two, Bowers was one for two, Schwoegler was one for two, and Zimmerman was one for two.
“A lack of offensive punch and a total of six defensive errors by the Wildcats led to eight unearned runs crossing the plate for Luther Prep…We need to find a way to put some runs on the board against good pitching and limit our mistakes defensively,” Benash stated.
