SR Boys Track Team Takes Second, Girls Take Third
On Thursday, April 16, the Sugar River track and field team participated in the Bluejay Invite at Cambridge High School.
The boys team placed second overall with 139 points, only 11.75 points behind top finisher Cambridge. On the girls side, Sugar River finished in third overall with 108 points behind Cambridge and Turner.
Senior Brandon Shemanski finished second in the 100 meter run while senior Ryan Hayes placed fourth. In the 200 meter run, freshman Dalton Fahey finished sixth, and junior Eli Rule was ninth. In the 400 meters, senior Tanner Hofer finished third, with a time of 54.42.
In the 1600 meter run, sophomore Christian Arnett placed ninth while junior Justin Edge finished fourth in the 3200 meter run, along with sophomore Jordan Hosler placing 10th.
Senior Colton Boley won the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 16.54, and additionally, he won the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 42.72. The 4x100 meter relay of Fahey, Hayes, Cole Martin and Shemanski was victorious with a time of 46.41.
The 4x200 meter relay of Martin, Nick Smith, Rule and Cade Martin finished fifth. Ryan Dull, Lukas Diaz, Boley and Hofer, the Sugar River 4x400 meter relay team, placed second with a time of 3:44.06. In the 4x800 meter relay, the Sugar River team of Hosler, Kyle Fredrickson, Edge and Gilbertson finished second with a time of 9:22.76.
Winning the shot put was junior Landon Zimmerman, with a distance of 49-06.25 while senior Mike Fink was fourth, with a distance of 41-07.50 and Jackson McMahan was sixth, with a distance of 40-09.25.
Zimmerman also won the discus with a distance of 143-09; McMahan finished in fourth place with a distance of 124-08, and Fink was sixth with 119-02. In the high jump, Hofer tied for fifth with a height of 5-04.00. In the pole vault, Smith was seventh overall.
Shemanski won the long jump with a distance of 20-09.75, while Hayes came in fourth with a distance of 19-06.00. Diaz placed eighth in the long jump. In the triple jump, Diaz finished seventh.
For the girls, freshman Eliza Woods and junior Devyn Weiser competed in the 100 meter run while sophomore Grace Schulting finished eighth in the 200 meter run and Woods placed 10th.
In the 400 meter run, sophomore Rebecca Barr took second place with a time of 1:06.77. Placing second in the 800 meter dash was sophomore Noelle Maire with a time of 2:28.74, and junior Kerry McCoy finished seventh.
Senior Brianne Roska placed second in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:51.89, and senior Sam Barr finished fifth with a time of 6:14.69.
Freshman Abby Weisberg came in sixth place in the 3200 meter run; sophomore Ciara Roberts took seventh place in the 100 meter hurdles and fourth place in the 300 meter hurdles with a time of 56.47.
Competing in the 4x100 meter relay was the team of Ashley Clark, Schulting, Walela Three-Sticks and Woods. The 4x200 meter relay team of Weiser, Jessica Hutter, Three-Sticks and Roberts finished third with a time of 2:05.74, and the 4x400 meter relay team of Rebecca Barr, Maire, Lauren O’Connor and McCoy also finished third with a time of 4:4.35. Winning the 4x800 meter relay was the team of Roska, O’Connor, Maire and Sam Barr with a time of 10:26.44.
Junior Cassie McMillan and senior Madeline Knox competed in the shot put and discus; Knox placed fifth in the discus with a distance of 85-03. Senior Trisha Wiese tied for fourth in the high jump with a height of 4-06.00 while Roberts tied for 10th place. Clark tied for first in the pole vault event with a height of 9-00.00. Schulting placed second in the long jump with a distance of 14-09.00, and Hutter finished ninth. Schulting also placed second in the triple jump with a distance of 31-00.00 while Hutter placed fifth and Three-Sticks sixth.
