Raiders Soccer Add Three More Wins

In a busy week of soccer, the Sugar River Raiders were victorious over Stoughton, Wisconsin Heights and McFarland. With discipline, desire and individuals playing well as a team, the Raiders continue to improve. The Raiders have six wins on the season and one loss.

On April 13, the Raiders traveled to Stoughton to take on a team they defeated in the Sugar River Invitational just two days earlier. The Raiders offense was unrelenting in pressuring Stoughton, while the midfielders controlled the ball well and a strong defense blocked all efforts at scoring. Junior forward Vanessa Narveson scored three goals in the match and junior forward Brooke Larson found the net for the 4th goal of the night for the Raiders. Final score: Raiders 4, Stoughton 0.

On April 14, in a Capital Conference match, the Raiders hosted the Wisconsin Heights Vanguards. In a physical, hard fought match, the Raiders took control of the game and stayed disciplined. Scoring both goals for the Raiders was Vanessa Narveson. The defense, consisting of Jamie Ott, Abbi Lahey, Jackie Burgess, Hannah Jones and goalkeeper Paige Natzke, with their quick speed and ability to control the ball in the air frustrated the Vanguards. The Raiders remain undefeated in Conference play with both conference games ending in shutouts. Final score: Raiders 2, Wisconsin Heights 0.

On April 17, in a much anticipated game, the Raiders hosted the McFarland Spartans. The Raiders dominated the first 64 minutes of the game by attacking quickly and shutting down the Spartans scoring attempts. Scoring goals for the Raiders were Taylor Legler, Abbi Lahey and Brooke Larson. McFarland was able to score on a penalty shot in the 65th minute of the game. Nicole Sanders quickly answered by adding another goal for the Raiders on a hard direct kick that was shot just past the mid-field line.

The Spartans added one more goal to their tally but the Raiders came out victorious. Senior goalkeeper Paige Natzke had some amazing saves on the night, including a one-armed hook on the ball. Final score: Raiders 4, McFarland 2.

The Raiders will be hosting the Monroe Cheesemakers on Thursday, April 23, at 7:00 p.m., at the Belleville Sports Complex.
