Sugar River Wins Against Cambridge Deerfield

On Tuesday, September 6th, the Sugar River boys soccer team traveled to McFarland to play the Spartans, losing 4-1.

McFarland opened the scoring in the 25th minute with a goal by Ethan Nichols. Nichols would go on to score twice more in the first half. Alex Sonday scored the fourth goal for the Spartans in the 54th minute of the second half.

Sugar River's Jared Widish scored the lone goal for Sugar River at the 64th minute, with a penalty kick.

"Cole Myers had a great game with over 10 saves as keeper," said Coach Kyle Webber.

Hosting Cambridge/Deerfield on Thursday, September 8th, Sugar River recorded a big win over the Cambridge/Deerfield team, winning 6-1. Five different Sugar River players scored goals.

Jaden Kreklow started the scoring with a solo goal in the 26th minute of the game. Ezekiel Noriega reached a ball in the box before the keeper, touched it around him and played it into the goal less than 10 minutes later. Jared Widish followed up with a goal, assisted by Kreklow, making the score 3-0 at the end of the first half of play.

"To start the second half, Noah Leonard dribbled up the field and played a lofted cross to Brock Kelly," said Coach Kyle Webber. "Kelly dropped the ball to Otto Anson, who one-touch finished the ball in the net."

Cambridge/Deerfield answered that goal with a corner kick by Vanvalin, assisted by Wilfong. Sugar River ended the scoring with a great break-away by Alex Betthauser, who passed the ball to the back post for Devin Brown to put the ball in the net.

Earlier, on September 3rd, the Sugar River team participated in a tournament at Big Foot High School. They beat Saint John's NW Military Academy 3-0, with Brock Kelly, assisted by Cole Kleiboer, and Jaden Kreklow and Jack Gentili, both assisted by Brock Kelly, all scoring goals. In the game against Big Foot/Williams Bay, Sugar River lost, 0-1. Goalkeeper Cole Myers recorded six saves. In the matchup between Sugar River and Janesville Craig at the tournament, Sugar River won, 2-0. Both goals were scored in the first half. Cole Kleiboer, assisted by Jaden Kreklow scored in the 3rd minute and just two minutes later Connor DeLorme scored a goal. Tyler Boeck and Cole Myers were the goalkeepers. Boeck recorded three saves, and Myers had four saves.

On September 13th, the team hosted Poynette/Portage and will then host Mount Horeb on September 15th.
