George Eichelkraut, age 79 of New Glarus, died on Saturday, September 10, 2022, at UW Hospital in Madison. He was born on August 24, 1943, to Paul and Eldera (Itten) Eichelkraut.

He grew up in New Glarus and graduated from New Glarus High School in 1961. He began farming at a young age and farmed his entire life. He also worked at Francois Ford, Accurate Auto, and was a bartender at Flannery's Supper Club. Over the last 20 years, he worked at Kelsch Machine in Paoli. He was a member of the Town of New Glarus Board and served as President for many years. In addition, he was part of the Green County ASCS Board for many years. He also enjoyed playing softball and playing cards and was a member of the Sugar River Euchre League for many years.

On April 16, 1966, he married Lois Paulson and the couple was happily married for 53 years. George has two sons, Brett (Renee) Eichelkraut and Jeff (Jackie) Eichelkraut. George has five grandchildren that he enjoyed so much, Kendra Mussehl, Bailey Eichelkraut, Bo Eichelkraut, Ellie Eichelkraut, and Reese Eichelkraut.

He is survived by his two sons; and three siblings, Barbara Eichelkraut, Rachel (Denny) Baker, and Josh (Katie) Eichelkraut; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lois; brothers, Jerome and Byron; and sister, Aleta.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Saturday, September 17, 2022, at the Swiss United Church of Christ, 18 Fifth Avenue, New Glarus, WI, with Rev. Pat Pluss officiating. A gathering of relatives and friends will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., on Friday, September 16, 2022, at the Zentner-Beal Funeral Home, 29 Sixth Avenue, New Glarus, WI.
