A Note From the Monticello Village President
August 18, 2022
Hi Everyone,
My name is Bob LaBarre and I was born in Southern Wisconsin USA–my 1st privilege in life, and was raised and educated in Wisconsin–my 2nd privilege in life.
I came to live and retire in Village of Monticello and was privileged to be elected to the Village Board of Trustees. Subsequently I am in my second term, ending with the April spring general election.
My wife, Denise Pinnow, and I returned from vacation late Thursday, July 28. The Village Board met on Friday, July 29th, but I did not know how this would change my life.
For better or for worse...(you know the rest of that vow, except until death do us part), I am now the Interim Village President (not a mayor).
With tremendous support from this community, we were able to accomplish some monumental tasks. We were able to the hold the Primary Election, which was made much more stringent now by law so that there is impeccable transparency.
We were able to keep an orderly board in the midst of several resignations, including the crucial job of Village Clerk. Yes, we lost our wonderful clerk Tom Purdy, but we have been chugging along with the help of past and present board members, the County Clerk Arianna Voegeli, and many private citizens who stepped up to help our overwhelmed local government.
This is how a great community behaves! But let’s not hold back the momentum that we are experiencing. We are on an exciting venture leading us toward a challenging yet rewarding future.
Monticello is a community that is showing others how good citizens respond to adversity. It’s a fact that we help each other as others have unconditionally helped us, and that our children and grandchildren see the benefits of our actions.
The more we get involved, even in seemingly small ways, does make a difference in the decisions and outcomes of this Village.
As your elected officials, we not only want to hear what you are saying, we need you to help us govern in an open and thoughtful manner. We will make mistakes, but living in Monticello is truly a privilege.
Thank you,
Bob LaBarre
