Monticello Village Board Appoints New Village President

August 4, 2022

It was standing room only at the Monticello Village Board’s Special meeting on Friday, July 29, 2022. Village Clerk Tom Purdy brought the meeting to order. Board members in attendance were April Fuhr, Bob LaBarre, Dan Pederson, Aaron Bittner, Tyler Smith and Erin Goins. Although Goins had resigned following the last board meeting, she rescinded her resignation. Dan Pederson was appointed presiding officer for the meeting.

During the public comment portion of the meeting, John Teasdale asked Erin Goins if she had been tutored by former Village President Leaora Miller. Goins replied that Miller had been a mentor to her. Teasdale asked how long Miller had mentored her and Goins replied that it was approximately a month and a half. Sue Sinnett requested that the board speak loudly and clearly so that the entire audience could hear them.

After wrapping up the public comments, Bob LaBarre was nominated for the Village President’s position, and the vote was unanimous to appoint him. LaBarre thanked everyone.

Then the board heard that Village Clerk Tom Purdy had turned his resignation, effective 7/29/22 following the board meeting.

The board also was read a letter from Sharon Ackerman, who had been interim Deputy Village Clerk. She requested that she be allowed to return to her job as Administrative Assistant to the Monticello Police Department effective August 1, 2022.

The discussion then turned to appointing someone to fill the now vacant trustee seat held by Bob LaBarre. Three names were discussed, Hilda Baumgartner, Andy Henning and Joe Elmer. Baumgartner and Henning had been on the board before. It was decided that LaBarre would nominate someone and then the board would vote on approval. LaBarre nominated Hilda Baumgartner. The approval vote failed on a 3-3 tie. It was then decided to wait until the next Village Board meeting to take up the issue of appointing a new trustee.

The board then heard that two numbers had been transposed in the loan for the new Public Works building. The correct amount is $1.795 million.

The board also added Bob LaBarre as an authorized signatory for village checks. Currently Erin Goins and April Fuhr, as members of the Finance Committee, are also signatories.

The next Monticello Village Board meeting is scheduled for August 3, 2022.
