RUBY L. ELMER
December 3, 1923- June 10, 2022
June 16, 2022
Ruby L. Elmer, age 98, was called home by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, June 10, 2022. Her permanent address is now in heaven. She was born on December 3, 1923, to Alvin and Sarah (Olson) Helmenstine in Mount Horeb.
She married Harold Elmer on February 17, 1943, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa, and they enjoyed 71 years together.
Those left to cherish her memory are three children, Rev. Dr. Duane (Dr. Muriel) Elmer of Winfield, IL, Gary (Maggie) Elmer of Waupaca and Judy (Chuck) Igl of Mount Horeb. She cherished six grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Donald Helmenstine; sisters, Verna Docken, Gladys Ryan and June Erickson; and other relatives. She was the last one of this generation!
Ruby was a resident of Postville, Madison and Mount Horeb. For 70 years she refined her craft of creating the most delectable Lefse, the Norwegian flatbread that she made every Christmas season. It was enjoyed by family and the many customers who signed up to purchase the delicacy by the dozens. The local paper, the Mount Horeb Mail, called her the Lefse Queen! Ruby's other passion in life was housecleaning and spent over 60 years working for some prominent people in Madison. She was trustworthy and faithful. Most of her people became good friends!
Ruby was a student of the Bible and a prayer warrior. She accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior on April 1, 1956. She loved memorizing the Bible verses. She also loved to play piano, organ and accordion by ear! And yodel!
A celebration of God's work in her life will be held at New Hope Evangelical Free Church, 639 S. Eighth Street, Mount Horeb, on Saturday, June 18, 2022. The service will be at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
Ruby's family extends our heartfelt thanks to the Girlie's Manor (Mount Horeb) staff for their excellent care for Mom and to the nursing staff at Agrace HospiceCare.
Memorials can be made to Our Daily Bread, Pacific Garden Mission, Gospel Ministries International, Inc., or any other of her favorite ministries.
