Mary L. O'Brien

Mary L. O'Brien, age 60, died on Tuesday, June 7, 2022, at St. Mary's Hospital in Madison surrounded by her family of complications of heart and lung disease not from COVID. She was born on May 6, 1962, at St. Clare Hospital in Monroe, the daughter of Paul and Patricia (Freitag) Oppliger.

Mary graduated from New Glarus High School in 1980. On September 17, 1988, she was united in marriage to Jerry O'Brien at the Swiss United Church of Christ in New Glarus. Mary owned and operated Road Rescue Towing, Inc. with her husband Jerry, along with working at Duluth Trading Company in Belleville. She was a member of the Zwingli United Church of Christ-Paoli. Mary was an avid fan of the Packers, Badgers, and Brewers, and she also enjoyed bowling. She was a loving wife and caring mother and grandmother. Mary will be best remembered as the calming voice on the phone for Road Rescue Towing. When you found yourself in a jam, Mary was the one that got help coming your way.

Mary is survived by her husband, Jerry; children, Bridget (Jacob) Flood, David (Kelsey) O'Brien, and Jennifer O'Brien; grandchildren, Skylar Mae Flood and Joseph Fynn O'Brien. She is further survived by her sisters, Nancy (Robert) Oppliger-Betts and Theresa Oppliger; brother, Donald Oppliger; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Richard Oppliger; niece and God-daughter, Amy Seals; and brother-in-law, Joseph O'Brien Jr.

Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m., on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at the Becker-Beal Funeral Home, 109 Greenway Cross, Belleville, WI, with the Rev. Steve Davis officiating. Burial is in the Paoli Cemetery. Relatives and friends called from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, at the Becker-Beal Funeral Home in Belleville. A celebration of Mary's life followed the funeral service and burial from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, at the New Glarus Fest Haus, 106 Third Avenue, New Glarus, WI.
